The Doom Shotgun

This is an accurate 3D recreation of the TootsieToy shotgun (sometimes referred to as the “Dakota Shotgun”) that ID software used to created the original shotgun sprites in Doom (1993) as seen here: https://slayersclub.bethesda.net/en/article/faEqRn7WcMRz6jrOEgSmg/doomorabilia-7-the-o-g-doomstick

I tracked down the original toy on ebay and created this model with a variety of techniques including photogrammetry (3D Scanning), 2D Scanning, measuring with calipers, subdivision modeling, and retopology to ensure accuracy of the original toy gun to about 1/32nd of an inch. Materials were created procedurally in Blender to try to find a balance between the simple look of the toy and a little bit of realism of the metal and woodgrain that a real gun would have.

The high resolution mesh generated by photogrammetry. This is unusable in-game and needed to be retopologized. The photogrammetry helped for checking proportions, but ultimately the model needed to be remade from the ground up.
