Doom Replicas - The Plasma Gun / Rifle

This is an accurate 3D recreation of the Rambo M-60 barrel attachment that ID software used to create the original plasma gun (aka plasma rifle) sprites in Doom (1993).

I tracked down the original Rambo M-60 toy on ebay and created this model with a variety of techniques including photogrammetry (3D Scanning), 2D Scanning, measuring with calipers, subdivision modeling, and retopology to ensure accuracy of the original toy gun to about 1/32nd of an inch. Materials were created procedurally in Blender to try to find a balance between the simple look of the toy and a little bit of realism of the metal that a real gun would have.

Close up of the original toy's barrel. This part of the toy was not used as part of the sprite in Doom, but I modeled it anyway for authenticity, and I think it looks cool.
